Almost finished my bathroom

Well I started putting drywall tape over some gaps in my bathroom wall, and over some holes in my wall.Yesterday my daughter helped put drywall mud over the holes and gaps.
I sanded some of the spots today and I must say my bathroom diy is coming along beautifully.Tomorrow I will finish up,then I get to paint it.Doing home repairs is fun,and I learn as I go. I have never used drywall tape,or drywall mud before.

I am bummed.

Okay,so painting my bathroom has a small glitch.I just remembered that somehow,I forgot to strip the paper from behind the commode.Snap.My husband has to help me with taking the commode apart to finish stripping off the 30+ years of ugly wallpaper.

My little helper.

Today is Feb 4,2014.
The house is coming along just wonderful. The hubby and I finished our first husband/wife diy project. Now we are going to finish painting the master bathroom as soon as Friday rolls around.
My 3 year old granddaughter, found my paint samples we've accumulated from Home Depot and Lowes. So every morning she says what color are we painting the bathroom and my room?
This is absolutely cute, knowing she wants to help choose paint colors.

Our first diy project.

Okay yesterday, the hubby and I put up our ceiling light that we bought the day before at Home Depot.
Okay so this was fun to watch and help.Trying to watch him put the correct wires together was humorous. He couldn't figure it out, even though he can read and write perfect English. He was getting frustrated. Not funny.(yes it was).So at my suggestion,he capped the end of the wires with wingnuts.Problem solved. We have a working ceiling light.Yay!!One husband and wife diy project done.Painting the bathroom that I've stripped is next.

Our little house

Our home is actually a condo. But she is beginning to feel love.So now I am,along with my partner in crime,my husband ,will be finishing up my first diy project of finishing painting the master bathroom.I decided to paint it "Deepest Aqua"because I love blue. Will post photos later.

First DIY project

Okay so we have been nicely settled into our home,I have almost finished my first do it yourself home project.
I hated the ugly wallpaper in our master bathroom,so I stripped it off with a barbeque spatula, yes spatula because it is metal and has a straight edge for scraping. The glue came off easy.
Now that it is done, sanding is next, then the walls get painted Deepest Aqua.

Pictures of the house.

We are home.

Well yesterday we had our internet and cable finally connected,so this is now our official home. What makes it more homey feeling is we actually have a mailing address.
Now once my sinus infection and bronchitis go away,I can actually finish my first do it myself painting project in my ugly, old bathroom.
Stripping 30+ years of wallpaper is hard work, for one person. And to peel off the glue is a challenge. My problems I now face is how do I manage to get this whopping six foot long mirror down,so I can paint behind it?And since space is tight, how do I manage to rip the wallpaper off from behind the toilet?
I have at least 3 feet to go above the ceramic tile in the bathtub, which I know I am unable to reach.Being short doesn't help much, and I am pretty sure if I put a chair in the tub to stand on it to finish my wallpaper off,the hubby would be mad to say the least.Yes,he would be heated.
Now after the paper comes off,I have to sand the walls, and fill in some small holes. Then there is my vanity. It is fine for now, however I can never understand why there was an extension at the end of the vanity. It's loose and is a problem. So it will come down.It serves no purpose other than to annoy me.
More to come.Enjoy my blog.

My diamond in the rough

I was just wondering why someone would purposely destroy a nice old house such as ours?My husband says they didn't care.Sad.This home should have been cared for.Don't tear things apart just because you had issues with the landlord. The small kids were worse.
My family and I are thankful for this nice house.Granted we have to repair what had been broken, but we do not mind.Patience is a virtue.
The outside was as trashed as inside.Nasty, dirty diapers thrown in the hedges. And under the carport, they changed the oil from their car and never cleaned up the oil spill,so when the carport floor gets wet,it becomes super slippery.
My neighbor said that many times the former tenants garbage can would tip over and trash blown all over, and when she went and told them this, they would give her an "oh well" attitude.Okay, how hard is it to pick up your trash?Same goes for the childrens pool toys. They would blow away in the street, and the former tenants didn't care.
Now you see why our house is the pig house.Yes,it is embarrassing, however it will be cared for.
As soon as I am able to,I will try and upload photos from my smartphone.

Our"pig"house

My family and I just moved into our first real home, which is actually a condo.House, condo, call it whatever you want, but it is a house. You see my family and I were homeless for five months before we moved in a permanent residence. No longer embarrassed to not have an address anymore. Yay!!
We are renters. However, our landlord is very cool and said that this is our house, and we can do whatever we want.REALLY!!?? Awesome.
Our neglected home was once loved at some point in time. Then the previous renters destroyed her. When we checked out "our house" before moving in,we could not believe the damage that was done.I sit here shaking my head in total disbelief that some people could be as nasty.Yuck.
When we first walked in,a hallway is to our left, the kitchen to the right. We went into the hallway, and turned left into my inlaw's bedroom. There is no carpeting, nor any padding on the floor.Just tack strip along the baseboards, and a cement floor. The reasoning behind the bare floor was flea infestation.Hmm,really? There are things you can buy at Home Depot or Lowes,oh wait...an exterminator may work.Reality, what a concept. And they tore strips of wallpaper from the walls, and ripped out the closet door tracks, and ripped out the closet shelving.
The hallway linen closet has no knob.Easy peasy fix.Now the inlaw's bathroom. The former renters ripped, yes ripped off the wall, the ceramic toilet paper holder.Big hole in the wall.Easy fix too.The toilet(shaking my head again in disbelief)...wow.They had small kids because their toilet has a clog in it somewhere. It flushes, but not a big WHOOSH!!!They, the kids must have shoved stuff down the toilet.
We HAD hardwired smoke detectors. One above my inlaw's bedroom, one over the doorway to our bedroom.Notice the key word,had.Yeah.They were totally ripped off the walls, leaving live wires. Not good.
Our house maybe over 30+ years old.It has an 1980's look about her.The kitchen has a dropped ceiling.Yes,ugly old drop ceiling. It is going, going out.My cabinets are yucky and old.Maybe one day we will replace them. For now,a new coat of paint will do.I plan on painting the kitchen Sea Glass Green.I love the soft green color.
Now we venture to the dining room/living area.Over the dinner table we have a ceiling fan.It doesn't work, and is held together by a wire coat hanger.I know, right. No words to describe it.
Now for the lovely color of the living room.I love this part, all due to the high vaulted ceiling, but come on now...the room is, pardon my expression, but was painted poop brown. It does not even describe a chocolate bar. When I look at the color of the walls,I could not imagine why this color was chosen.Gross.But I have to laugh. The painter, taped off the edges of the vents, like you are supposed to,but for pete's sake, remove the darn tape after it dried.(rolling my eyes here)
Don't you just love the 80's vertical blinds? Not really.Mine, that were supposed to cover our sliding glass patio were pulled down by one of the kids.I have one over our garden window, they are paint splattered,so they must go...anywhere,just go.Yuck.
Our room.***sigh***.Yeah.Again,poop brown painted walls. But it gets funnier.Nobody took time to strip the wallpaper off. They painted over it.Not good. When we moved our bedroom furniture in that we had in storage, our queen sized bed had no problem. The third night sleeping there,we woke up with bites. All over. Our bedroom had a bad bedbug infestation.Nice, huh? Not really. We finally got rid of the problem. Now my favorite room. Our bathroom. It has what I call "bordello" looking wallpaper.Flowers and stripes.Ooh, it makes my eyes hurt. This has been my first do it yourself project.I have been working so hard,by myself on stripping that nasty looking wallpaper down.I have 3/4 of it down. But the huge six foot bathroom mirror has to come down,so I can finish what I started.Thirty years plus of old wallpaper glue comes off very easy. Now I have to figure out how to take the paper off behind the commode, and since I cannot reach above the bathtub without breaking my neck,I have to wait for my husband Edward to help me.He pulled a muscle in his back last Friday and is in pain.
Well,my journey to fix up our"pig" house begins.Pig house? Not in my eyes. She has been neglected,so she is our "diamond in the rough".Thank you for reading my blog.I am just starting out.Enjoy!
