Our"pig"house

My family and I just moved into our first real home, which is actually a condo.House, condo, call it whatever you want, but it is a house. You see my family and I were homeless for five months before we moved in a permanent residence. No longer embarrassed to not have an address anymore. Yay!!
We are renters. However, our landlord is very cool and said that this is our house, and we can do whatever we want.REALLY!!?? Awesome.
Our neglected home was once loved at some point in time. Then the previous renters destroyed her. When we checked out "our house" before moving in,we could not believe the damage that was done.I sit here shaking my head in total disbelief that some people could be as nasty.Yuck.
When we first walked in,a hallway is to our left, the kitchen to the right. We went into the hallway, and turned left into my inlaw's bedroom. There is no carpeting, nor any padding on the floor.Just tack strip along the baseboards, and a cement floor. The reasoning behind the bare floor was flea infestation.Hmm,really? There are things you can buy at Home Depot or Lowes,oh wait...an exterminator may work.Reality, what a concept. And they tore strips of wallpaper from the walls, and ripped out the closet door tracks, and ripped out the closet shelving.
The hallway linen closet has no knob.Easy peasy fix.Now the inlaw's bathroom. The former renters ripped, yes ripped off the wall, the ceramic toilet paper holder.Big hole in the wall.Easy fix too.The toilet(shaking my head again in disbelief)...wow.They had small kids because their toilet has a clog in it somewhere. It flushes, but not a big WHOOSH!!!They, the kids must have shoved stuff down the toilet.
We HAD hardwired smoke detectors. One above my inlaw's bedroom, one over the doorway to our bedroom.Notice the key word,had.Yeah.They were totally ripped off the walls, leaving live wires. Not good.
Our house maybe over 30+ years old.It has an 1980's look about her.The kitchen has a dropped ceiling.Yes,ugly old drop ceiling. It is going, going out.My cabinets are yucky and old.Maybe one day we will replace them. For now,a new coat of paint will do.I plan on painting the kitchen Sea Glass Green.I love the soft green color.
Now we venture to the dining room/living area.Over the dinner table we have a ceiling fan.It doesn't work, and is held together by a wire coat hanger.I know, right. No words to describe it.
Now for the lovely color of the living room.I love this part, all due to the high vaulted ceiling, but come on now...the room is, pardon my expression, but was painted poop brown. It does not even describe a chocolate bar. When I look at the color of the walls,I could not imagine why this color was chosen.Gross.But I have to laugh. The painter, taped off the edges of the vents, like you are supposed to,but for pete's sake, remove the darn tape after it dried.(rolling my eyes here)
Don't you just love the 80's vertical blinds? Not really.Mine, that were supposed to cover our sliding glass patio were pulled down by one of the kids.I have one over our garden window, they are paint splattered,so they must go...anywhere,just go.Yuck.
Our room.***sigh***.Yeah.Again,poop brown painted walls. But it gets funnier.Nobody took time to strip the wallpaper off. They painted over it.Not good. When we moved our bedroom furniture in that we had in storage, our queen sized bed had no problem. The third night sleeping there,we woke up with bites. All over. Our bedroom had a bad bedbug infestation.Nice, huh? Not really. We finally got rid of the problem. Now my favorite room. Our bathroom. It has what I call "bordello" looking wallpaper.Flowers and stripes.Ooh, it makes my eyes hurt. This has been my first do it yourself project.I have been working so hard,by myself on stripping that nasty looking wallpaper down.I have 3/4 of it down. But the huge six foot bathroom mirror has to come down,so I can finish what I started.Thirty years plus of old wallpaper glue comes off very easy. Now I have to figure out how to take the paper off behind the commode, and since I cannot reach above the bathtub without breaking my neck,I have to wait for my husband Edward to help me.He pulled a muscle in his back last Friday and is in pain.
Well,my journey to fix up our"pig" house begins.Pig house? Not in my eyes. She has been neglected,so she is our "diamond in the rough".Thank you for reading my blog.I am just starting out.Enjoy!
Regards,Dianne
